If you’re considering relocating to another country, you may not necessarily think about Singapore right away. Many people don’t know that much about Singapore, but this small country has a wealth of features to offer to residents. If you haven’t considered making Singapore your next home, here are a few reasons why you should.
There is Little to No Language Barrier
This is something many people are worried about when considering moving to a foreign country, but this is not a cause for concern in Singapore since English is used quite commonly. Many natives are bilingual in English and either Malay, Mandarin, or Tamil. Older individuals may only choose to speak their native language, but the younger generations will know at least basic English. The residents that are more business-oriented almost always speak relatively fluent English.
There are Many Choices
When you start looking at properties in Singapore, you’ll see that there are many different options out there. High rise apartments and condos are everywhere, and since space is at a premium, almost everything goes up into the air instead of spreading out on the ground. This does mean that houses are not as commonly available as they may be in other parts of the world. Though, as with any multi-faceted region, you will find some more classic residential properties in the suburbs and on some of the smaller islands.
You’ll find a good amount of Singapore property for sale at any given time, especially if you look in the city listings. New high rises are often being developed to meet the demands of the growing population. Many of these new buildings feature gyms, indoor pools, and other modern amenities. And due to the metropolitan scenery, residents are within walking distance of many event-centers, stores, and restaurants.
You May Not Need a Car
The main island of Singapore features only 276 square miles of land, making it quite small. In comparison, Los Angeles is almost twice that size, as is London. The city-state also has a very well developed public transportation system that not only reaches every part of the island, but is also very affordable, so utilizing it daily is not an issue. Even if you can’t use the trains or bus to reach an area, you can take a taxi for much less than you might think. Most of the desirable locations tend to be within walking distance anyway. Since there are extra fees required to own and operate a car, most people choose to walk or use public transportation.
Travel Southeast Asia
Living in Singapore opens up a whole new world of vacation destinations. Travel to many of the nearby areas such as Malaysia and Thailand is very affordable, plus you can take an inexpensive boat ride to several local islands. If you’ve retired to Singapore and want to continue seeing the world, trips to Japan, China, and Australia aren’t that long or costly at all.
It’s Very Safe
Finally, Singapore has a very low crime rate, and it’s perfectly safe to walk to and from work or the store, whether it be early in the morning or even after dark. There may not be a huge number of police officers visible like there are in the U.S., but they are readily available if needed.
